ROHA Homeowners’ Survey           Summer 2009     Compiled Results                             Comments

1) Appreciate dumpster?                     Yes -    30                    No  -   4

            - I have never used it. $1455 is ridiculous. Everyone should haul off their own trash. The County is already helping with limb debris. I have no problem using the County dump.

            Have it more often? How often?                    No -  19                                   2 X / year -  11                        3 X -  2

2) Deed Restrictions – more specific wording about  (1) what is not allowed here    Yes - 24         - Also farm animals

-                Excessive boats           - Boats in front of houses.

- There are houses who have too many old cars that don’t run, big trucks, tractors, etc. All that needs to go!

A lot near me is used to store cars, trucks, trailers and tractors. Our neighborhood is becoming too relaxed on enforcing the restrictions and it is really going downhill. There are some houses where the people need to take all their stuff to a storage facility and not use their yard or vacant lot.

                                                            (2) what is required     Yes -  20

                                                - Good idea, hard to define     - Should not allow unlicensed vehicles.

- Keep lawns mowed and neat, if a house is not occupied.     - Should have option of metal standing seam roofing.

Other specific suggestions?                            - Current restrictions are outdated and not enforced ( i.e. Architectural Cmte) (4)

- The LAW covers loose dogs, and it is not adhered to or enforced  (2)

-                      Limit business use of home, i.e. unlicensed day cares

-                      Covered garage for each home   - Maybe open lots with unused vehicles & equipment could have a storage building.

- Keeping animals contained. Neighbor’s dog has stolen shoes from our garage.

- I have no problem with the deed restrictions. If anything is unsightly, it is the area across from Allisons’, and across from Duggers’.

3) Speed limit lower? Yes -  12          No  - 22                       - Enforce current speed limit (2)

- Do not punish the masses for a few violators.

- Lower limit would not be enforced. I live at the entrance of RO, and I don’t view speeding as a problem. Most owners drive respectfully. On occasion you get a young speeder and no sign is going to change that.

- Even if speed limit is lowered, it will not stop speeders. Individuals need to speak with neighbors when they speed, and call the law if unknown or frequent.

- We need a noise level ordinance for after 12:00 (midnight).

- They don’t enforce 30, so I don’t think they will enforce 25, but I am in favor of 25 mph.

Lower to ?                               25 - 7               20 -  5                                      - Possible speed bumps?  (3 )

4) One big project?                             No -  5                                     -

 - Insurance (liability) would become an issue.  (2)     -  Heck no. It would attract outsiders and lead to even more problems.

A.    ball courts              Yes - 7

B.     pavilion                 Yes  - 11                                  - If maintained

- On property owned by ROWSC/ ROHA

C.    picnic area             Yes – 18          - Combine this with B (pavilion). (3)

- With a lap pool                 - Build a fishing pier too.

- Would be nice to use part of the old boat launch area.

- We could use the ROWSC lot, walk in only. This is a fenced area by Sara Roper’s. A back gate could be added and fenced area cleaned up. Must be careful not to impede on Sara’s property.

D.    playground            Yes -  17                                                                      - Too many state restrictions

E.     Other ideas:           - A Doggie Park, we definitely need this.

            - Credit any excess in budget to owners’ annual fee               -  Do not raise the dues.(3)

- Swimming pool, use Del Norte rules for pool; community pool (4)

- All of these would be great for our kids and meeting all the neighbors! (2)

- Maybe you could combine B, C and D.                               - Boat ramp

5) Annual barbeque: offer more often?                      Yes - 16           No  -  17                      - 2 X / year (3)

-                      Use the money saved by eliminating the dumpster.

-                      Have one also in the spring.

-                      Maybe a 4th of July event since we all do fireworks in neighborhood.

6) Other events you would like to see?                                              Yes -  10                      No  - 12

Community Yard Sale            -  13                Open House Day -  1

Other ideas?

- Bake sale, with proceeds to be used for community efforts to improve the neighborhood, such as playgrounds and the like.

-                      Volunteer trash pick-up.                                        -  Neighborhood watch.

-                      A day of baseball would be fun, a game for kids and then one for adults, maybe to go along with the barbeque.

7) Continue “Yard of the Quarter”?                           Yes  - 16                                  No   -   13

Other ideas:                                                                 - Offer a door prize for attending meetings!

            - It creates incentive for keeping yards looking good. Also makes owners know others are watching them. (2)

- Base it upon yard improvements, that way it is more random.

- I would rather have a drawing of current members.

- Enforce restrictions we have for mowed and neat yard!

-                Give Ugly Yard of the Quarter, and add $50 to their water bill a month and have it mowed.

-                Helping neighbors, neighbors in need.

-                Have a “Desperate Landscape” like on TV, then friendly neighbors could help beautify the yard.

8) Rate the level of service here,  1 – 5, 1 being not good, 5 being great.      No opinion -  7

# 1 (Not Good)    1                # 2 –   2                      # 3 – 1                         # 4    13                     # 5(great)  -  8

                                                                        - What service is provided? (3)

One thing I am happy about ROHA is:

                                    - Safe Area                              - Communication with homeowners (3)

- We like the yearly picnics.                                         - You are doing a great job, Sherry!

- Our own water system, not depending on city.         - Good water.              - Trash removal

- Neighborhood is nice and quiet and clean. Very friendly people. (4)

-                The number of loose dogs is almost at a minimum. Hardly ever see a dog running loose here at the entrance. I am also pleased that the Sheriff regularly cruises through our neighborhood.

-                The closeness to town, and quiet nights.                     - Streetlights.

-                Drop box  (3)  and front of River Oaks. That we can pay for more than one month water.

-                The yearly neighborhood picnic is fun.                 - The dues are low and the neighborhood is maintained well.

-                The Association Board has strived to provide a level of service to benefit its membership.

-                Basically I am happy with everything. I would like to see the projects mentioned if it doesn’t cost any more. Most people are already strapped.

-                Entry looks nice; bridge is nice with guardrails. (2) Thanks to Ms. Cathy Hafernick, I always see her hard working on the gate entrance.

Like to see change:

- See the board take a proactive, active and direct action on issues like garbage pick-up, road maintenance (not just patching), mosquito control, and unrestrained animals (also barking). These affect the entire neighborhood. Also, uncovered garbage cans that allow garbage to blow down the street and into neighbor’s yards. Most problems are as much a lack of good manners, consideration for others, and should not have to be legislated. The board needs to talk to some owners, not hire an attorney to put in writing what will not be followed anyway.

- $1500 on dumpster sounds high!   -  Animal Control (3)                                     - Road maintenance (3)

- Better quality water; do away with yellow faucet water. (2)

- Trashed yards, abandoned vehicles / numerous vehicles and boats.            - The weather!

- I would love to see something for kids to play, a playground.

-                The amount of deed restriction enforcement needs to increase. (5)

-                All other homeowners in other places enforce their rules by making homeowners pay for court costs, lawyers, etc.

- Being able to build another home – townhouse, etc., on property! Patio Homes. No apartments or rental units!

-          Would like to see waterfront properties cleaned up. We have seen trash dumped down the (creek) bank in the past.

-          Noise levels late at night.                - More interest by residents to get involved with activities.

-          We need to better enforce the speeds in the community.

-          We would like to be able to keep laying hens in our yard.

-          Community gatherings like prayer nights or ladies night out would be nice, anything that promotes community bonding.

Misc. comments:

- I would like to the see the board members contact the necessary agencies to inspect the septic systems throughout the neighborhood.

- How about a water survey? Some good things going on there!

- I like the idea about service co’s list. Would like to see a directory of names, phone no’s and addresses.

- Maybe ROHA could buy the Anderson’s or Brinkman’s lot for a pool or park.

- Please work on getting these junk cars our of driveways and backyards. Post a phone # to call about junk cars.

- Need to stay on County for better roads and drainage.        - Survey is a good idea.

- We should have a volunteer clean-up of Cole Road once or twice a year.

- Entrance looks nice after being changed. Crew very slow on San Bernard, and leaving yards in bad shape.

- Would like to have address and telephone and names of residents.
